My art is a reflection of a relationship between seer and seen. I find the world amazingly beautiful, demanding attention, asking to be noticed. Through the act of painting I am able to focus my attention on a subject. In the time it takes to follow the curve of an outline, find the space between objects, track bits of light, reflected color in shadows, I begin to understand the magic in what I see. When I engage with the world as an active observer, I recognize the sacred that infuses the ordinary.
